چکیده
INTRODUCTION Keratoconus is a noninflammatory cone-like ectasia of the cornea that can be managed by glasses, contact lenses, keratoplasty, crosslin king (CXL), and intrastromal corneal ring segment (ICRS) insertion, based on the stage of the disease and the patient’s symptoms. Despite being an evolutive disease, CXL has recently been utilized as a therapeutic option for stabilizing the cornea. An optical microscopic study demonstrated that the morphology grade of the most superficial epithelial cells obtained by impression cytology (IC) from the cornea and bulbar conjunctiva did not change after CXL using riboflavin and ultraviolet-A (UVA) light in the treat ment of keratoconus. Some patients have been pretreated with CXL, and ICRS can be performed in conjunction to the produce, flattening the central corneal curvature, which decreases corneal irregularity and improves visual acuity. To the authors’ knowledge, no report on the cytological features of the ocular surface epithelium after CXL and ICRS insertion in the treatment of keratoconus currently exists in the literature. The aim of this study was to report the IC features of the conjun cti va and cornea after CXL and ICRS insertion in the treatment of keratocoImpression cytologic analysis after corneal cross-linking and insertion of corneal ring segments for keratoconus: two-year results

Evaluation of Corneal Aberrometry Parameters Before and After Cross-Linking in Patients with Keratoconus
Background and Objective: In the last decade, cross-linking (CXL) has been widely used for treating people with progressive keratoconus. The present study aimed to compare corneal aberrometry parameters before and after CXL in patients with keratoconus. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 67 patients with keratoconus referred to Farshchian Sina Medical Education Center, Hamad...

متن کاملComparative Results in a Combined Procedure of Intrastromal Corneal Rings Implantation and Cross-linking in Patients with Keratoconus: A Retrospective Study
INTRODUCTION Corneal thinning disorders caused by keratoconus often lead to protrusion, irregular astigmatism, and even perforation. Keratoconus, like other corneal ectasia, does not have a known cause. Severe cases of keratoconus may require correction or restoration of tectonic integrity of the cornea by surgical means. Intracorneal ring segments are a new modality in the treatment of corneal...

متن کاملCorneal Physiology and Responses to Cross-Linking and Intracorneal Rings in Keratoconus
Keratoconus is a noninflammatory, usually, bilateral progressive disease. It is a pathology characterized by a progressive thinning and ectasia of the stroma that results in cone-shaped cornea. In advanced keratoconus with corneal opacities, keratoplasty, can be the only surgical alternative for a long time. Recently, new treatment alternatives were developed in keratoconus treatment, such as i...
